Retro TV Jeff Stelling Soccer Saturday T-Shirt

Jeff Stelling, the country's most famous Hartlepool United supporter,  began his career as a teenage reporter for the Hartlepool Mail in the early 1970s before joining Radio Tees as a sports presenter then moving on to television, working for the BBC, TV-AM, Eurosport and Sky Sports. 

A keen racegoer himself Jeff was host of The Winning Post, Sky's live programme of evening horse racing and a presenter of other sports, too, including greyhound racing, snooker, darts and cricket. 

In 1992, the broadcaster launched Sports Saturday, a programme similar to the BBC's Grandstand and ITV's World Of Sport, originally hosted by Paul Dempsey and Sue Barker, with Jeff taking over as anchorman in 1994. The show featured a variety of sports but gradually focused almost entirely on football, providing previews of the day's action, together with score updates as they happened, plus half-time reports and a full-time results round-up. 

Reflecting this change, the programme's title was altered to Soccer Saturday for the 1998-99 season and a studio panel of former footballers was introduced who watched the action on monitors and reported what was happening to the viewing public.
