Born in 1940, Edson Arantes Do Nascimento - the incomparable Pele - began his career with Brazilian club Santos aged only 15 and made his debut for his country just a year later, going on to become the only player in history to win three World Cups - in 1958, 1962 and, most memorably, in 1970 as arguably part of the best international team of all-time. Pele left Santos in 1974 to join New York Cosmos in the new North American Soccer League and his career finally ended in 1977, fittingly with a friendly match between Cosmos and Santos.
