Replacing the suspended Ian St John, local lad Kevin Lewis scored both goals to confirm Liverpool as Champions of Division Two with five games still left. Within two years, under the legendary Bill Shankly, the club won the Division One title and in 1965 triumphed in the FA Cup Final for the first time, before reclaiming the Division One crown in 1965-66.
