John Motson was a familiar voice on the BBC for over 50 years, covering numerous matches including 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships, 29 FA Cup finals and more than 200 England games. Barry Davies started his career with ITV but joined the BBC in 1969 and along with Motson was synonymous for his Match Of The Day commentaries until he left in 2004, though he continued to cover the Olympics and Wimbledon for the corporation.
