Bob Latchford signed for Everton from Birmingham City in 1974 in a deal valued at £350,000 which saw Goodison hero Howard Kendall and left-back Archie Styles move the other way together with £80,000 cash. 'Big Bob' was a crowd favourite averaging a goal every other game and in 1977-78 he reached the 30-mark, winning a £10,000 prize offered by the Daily Express newspaper for the first footballer to do so in a single season.
