1995 Eric Cantona Seagulls and Sardines T-Shirt

In January, 1995, in a match at Selhurst Park, Eric Cantona was dismissed three minutes after the interval for kicking out at Crystal Palace defender Richard Shaw. As the Frenchman left the field of play, he was subjected to abuse by one of the home spectators and launched a kung-fu-style kick at the perpetrator before exchanging punches with him. 

The day after the shocking incident in south London, Manchester United announced that the Frenchman would not play for the first team again this season and fined him two weeks' wage, reported to be £20,000.

The FA then extended Cantona's ban to eight months. up to September 30th. He was also charged with assault by the police and given a two-week prison sentence, though this was changed on appeal to 120 hours of community service. It was at a press conference following this successful appeal that Cantona gave his brief speech before a somewhat bewildered audience.
