1966 Muhammad Ali v Henry Cooper T-Shirt
1966 Muhammad Ali v Henry Cooper T-Shirt
British heavyweight boxing champion Henry Cooper was one of the original captains on A Question of Sport when it was first broadcast in January, 1970, together with Cliff Morgan.
He had fought Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, in a non-title bout in 1963, famously knocking the 'Louisville Lip' to the canvas, before the referee stopped the fight in the sixth round due to a cut over Cooper's left eye.
This rematch in 1966 was dubbed the Fight of the Century and, though the Londoner started well, he was beaten again by the American due to a bad cut, this time in the sixth round. As a keen Arsenal fan who sometimes trained with the players, as well as receiving medical treatment, the fight was staged at Highbury.
