Jimmy Hill had a long and illustrious career in football, from player to manager and as chairman of the PFA, during which time he successfully campaigned for the scrapping of the maximum £20 weekly wage. But he is perhaps best known as the host of BBC television's Match of the Day from 1973 to 1988.
