Born in 1940, Edson Arantes DoNascimento - the incomparable Pele -began his career with Brazilian clubSantos aged only 15 and made his debut for his country just a year later.

He remains the only player in history to win threeWorld Cups - in 1958, 1962 and, most memorably, in1970 as arguably part of the best internationalteam of all-time, when he was awarded the Golden Ball as the Player of the Tournament.

Pele’s international career ended in 1971 and he left Santos in 1974 to join New York Cosmos in the new North American Soccer League. His club career finally ended in 1977, fittingly with a friendlymatch between Cosmos and Santos.
