Dixie Dean

William Ralph 'Dixie' Dean is undeniably the greatest Everton player of all-time scoring 383 goals for the Blues in 433 appearances.

Signed from Tranmere Rovers for £3,000 in 1925, the achievement for which he is best remembered is the record of scoring 60 League goals in a single season, set in 1927-28. He also led the Blues to glory in the 1933 FA Cup Final against Manchester City when shirt numbering was introduced, thus becoming Everton's first Number 9.

It was fitting that he died at Goodison Park in March 1980, just minutes after the final whistle of a Derby with Liverpool.
